About Us

Bega Valley Organics is the result of over a decade of farming experience across various regions of NSW. Founded by Georgie Isbister and Alex Cunningham, our journey has been driven by a commitment to organic and regenerative farming principles that support a healthy, vital planet.

Together, we have farmed in Canberra, Armidale, and now the beautiful Bega Valley. We have owned and managed farms commercially producing chemical-free garlic, pasture-raised pork, and handmade products such as garlic braids, preserves, and beeswax wraps – all crafted with care and respect for the environment. Our journey has given us invaluable insights, from small-scale producers to broad-acre farmers, shaping our holistic approach to farming and strengthening our commitment to both community and the environment

Georgie’s love for farming began early, spending school holidays on horseback and gaining hands-on experience mustering cattle on a friend’s 6,000-acre wheat and cattle farm in western NSW. Her passion grew at university, where she bought her first horse and split her time between Sydney and her grandparents’ farm in the Blue Mountains. Over the years, Georgie has also cultivated gardens across Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, and the Blue Mountains. She later expanded her passion into market-scale gardens and paddocks of garlic after purchasing their first farm near Canberra over a decade ago.

Georgie’s career includes roles in international development and community engagement with a range of NGOs, Lecturing in several undergraduate and postgraduate level subjects in the Department of Gender and Cultural Studies at the University of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney, and she also worked on women’s safety policy within the Office for Women at the Commonwealth Government. Her practical farming experience, combined with her professional background, shapes her dedication to organic farming, regenerative agriculture, and community-focused initiatives.

Alex grew up in the suburbs of Melbourne and discovered farming during school holidays on his grandparent’s farm in Ballarat. His passion blossomed when he and Georgie bought their first farm near Canberra, where he managed pigs to produce pasture-raised pork. With a professional background in policy, economic development, and community engagement across various government roles in local, state and federal governments, Alex brings extensive expertise to their shared venture. He has also on the board of Mumbulla School for Rudolf Steiner, volunteered as a Lifeline Hotline worker in Canberra and is a certified Psych-K practitioner. Currently, Alex works as a manager in regional development policy for the NSW Government.

Our personal and professional paths have always been driven by a passion to create and support better ways of living and being in the world. When we were starting our family, moving to a farm was a deliberate decision to offer ourselves, and our children, a holistic experience and deeper understanding of our relationship to the land. We wanted to cultivate a stronger appreciation for the energies, resources, and processes that sustain our everyday lives and the communities we live in.

For us, every small step towards a healthier life and planet matters. We live in a world filled with contradictions, where striving to live in harmony with each other and the Earth is a challenge many of us face. Our lives are deeply connected to ways of living and technologies reliant on resource extraction and often unethical production, making it nearly impossible to opt out of these systems entirely – a choice accessible only to those with significant privilege or isolation.

At Bega Valley Organics, rather than becoming overwhelmed by all these contradictions, we focus on what we can do—taking intentional steps that together will build momentum to create change for the better—growing and supporting others to grow real food, providing this nutritious delicious food to our local community and in this supporting the building of both healthier food systems and food security more broadly. In forming Bega Valley Organics we’re excited to continue this path, sharing our passion for fresh, wholesome food with others along the way.
